Bone disease

The formation, resorption and remodeling of bone is an important physiological process. Enzyme alkaline phosphatase is a key marker of bone growth, with higher levels in childhood as the bones grow decreasing and leveling off in adulthood. Calcium, magnesium and phosphorus are the major mineral constituents of bone, with Parathyroid hormone (PTH) regulating blood calcium by mobilizing skeletal calcium stores, decreasing renal calcium clearance and increasing calcium absorption from the intestine through Vitamin D activation.

For in vitro diagnostic use.

Measurement of PTH, Vitamin D, and calcium allows the identification of disorders involving mineral pathways that impact bone formation and remodeling pointing towards an underlying disorder diagnosis. Abbott offers a range of assays to assist you in the analysis of those elements that are vital for the diagnosis and monitoring of these disorders.
