The rapid growth in Vietnam’s healthcare demand, driven by demographic shifts and economic development, placed pressure on Medic-Lab to scale operations without compromising quality or increasing costs. The lab needed to manage increasing test volumes in limited physical space, reduce turnaround times, and maintain high-quality standards. Additionally, environmental sustainability and resource optimization became critical, requiring solutions that could reduce energy and water consumption while improving staff efficiency and system uptime.

Medic-Lab implemented Abbott’s total laboratory solution, including the Alinity ci-series and Alinity PRO informatics. This enabled a 10% increase in testing capacity using 40% less space, improving tests per square meter by 81%. The lab adopted Six Sigma methodologies, achieving 90% of assays at 5 Sigma or higher, reducing QC rejections and material use. Informatics tools enhanced visibility and flexibility, allowing seamless assay management and inventory sharing. Load-on-the-fly capabilities reduced manual steps, saving 645 hours annually, while eliminating analyzer downtime added 133+ hours of uptime. 

The implementation led to a 6.5% and 5.7% improvement in median TATs for clinical chemistry and immunoassay tests, respectively. Service commitments improved by 20 minutes, enabling faster clinical decisions. Energy and water consumption per test dropped by 51.5% and 2.9%, respectively. Medic-Lab supported double-digit test volume growth without increasing staff, reduced operational costs, and enhanced environmental sustainability. These improvements strengthened Medic-Lab’s position as a leading diagnostic provider in Vietnam.
